Foods To Avoid That Cause Gout


If you are suffering from gout there is one question that will be weighing heavily on your mind, which is: What are the foods to avoid that causes gout?

You need to make sure that you cut down on any risk factors that can cause a gout flare up – and one of the more critical elements is your diet. Unfortunately you may have to give up on some foods that you enjoy eating, but anything is better than living with the intense pain of gout.

Foods high in purines are to be avoided and in particular animal flesh sources of purine, such as beef and seafood, which can greatly increase the risk of developing gout.

Many seafood’s can cause gout - particularly shellfish such as clam, oyster, scallop, shrimp, crab, lobster, and crayfish as well as sardines and anchovies (watch out for them on your pizza’s!)

Other foods to avoid that cause gout are animal flesh sources such as kidneys, brains, liver, or other offal meats. Meat extracts such as consommés and gravies are also to be avoided.

Vegetables such as asparagus, cauliflower, mushrooms, spinach and dry beans (such as lentils & peas are also foods to avoid that can cause gout. It may not leave you with much variety within your diet, but following these guidelines can be beneficial to reliving the symptoms of gout.
